Peregrine Chardonnay 2018
This is one of my local fave’s - Peregrine Chardonnay! ⠀
The 2108 is produced from a combination of organically certified fruit from their Bendigo (65%) and Gibbston sites (35%) in Central Otago. A memorable year for viticulture in the region that began with an unusually warm spring, followed by one of the hottest and driest summers on record. And Chardonnay digs that!! It results in desirable fruit set, optimum ripeness levels and limited disease pressure. This cumulated in a growing season that delivered the earliest Chardonnay harvest to date, with a bounty of quality fruit to work with. ⠀
100% Whole Bunch pressed - Barrel fermented and matured for 10 months in French oak puncheons and hogsheads. Completely indigenous malolactic conversion. There is a touch of residual sugar, ok, it's <1gram but sometimes that's all it takes with this style to really light up the the barrel derived flavours (vanilla, butterscotch, caramel) without having them dominate or compromise fruit expression. Fresh as it is complex, this delicious Chardonnay has all the attributes of it's origins, while still baring the unmistakable signature of the Peregrine brand. Hats off to Nadine and her team!! ⠀
