2013 Craggy Range Sophia

2013 Craggy Range Sophia

$199.00

Nestled under the magnificent Te Mata Peak in Hawke's Bay, this family owned institution is all class and widely regarded as the regions finest.  Vineyards are located on the esteemed Gimblett Gravels Wine Growing District, the former bed of the Ngaruroro River that was exposed by floods in 1876. The gravels contain a combination of warm river stones and sandy alluvial soils that both insulate the vines in winter and retain extra heat during summer that promotes optimum ripening. The Merlot dominant blend Sophia ('wisdom') is Hawkes Bay's tribute to Right Bank Bordeaux.

Category: Merlot

Lifted aromatics of blackcurrant and wild flowers married with complex aromas of of baking spices and cigar box.

Full bodied with extremely fine grained tannins, the mouthfeel sits comfortably with a balanced textural structure. Flavours of ripe blackcurrant and plum up front with a nuance of dried herbs and raisons at the back of the palate.

Delicious chewy, lengthy finish with herbs and spices dominating.

Last tasted June 2018. Best is yet to come 3-10+ years
