Considered by many as new Zealand's benchmark Pinot Noir, Felton Road are renowned throughout the world for unblemished quality. The winery is three-tier gravity fed to accommodate a 'hands off' approach throughout these crucial stages of production. Minimal human intervention during the winemaking process allows the fruit to better express itself through the unique characteristics of its origins. This extremely rare Single Block 3 Pinot Noir is the beloved darling of the Felton Road range.
At this youthful stage, it’s tight, somewhat closed and dark - this dark inky note could be
the smell of old vines? The palate definitely follows through, with deep, rich mocha infused
tannins and the trademark length. It rides on top of that wave of indulgent phenolics, the
pure dark berry freshness of Block 3 dances precariously, like a surfer clinging on before
being inevitably overwhelmed. As this vineyard matures, it learns not to shout, but that does
nothing to steal from its authority.

Restrained wood with floral, dried herb and mineral complexity over a core of concentrated
black fruit. Unquestionable elegance married to remarkable power, the intensely flavoursome
palate unfolds in stages of savoury, fruit and floral, all kept in check by reasonably firm, ripe
tannins with flashes of rosemary. Astounding complexity in a poised package. Medium-bodied
but very long, this wine is all about the back-palate; there is plenty of matter here and it's
currently very young. Despite the sheer concentration in evidence, this has impeccable
balance and should age gracefully over the coming decade without losing its finesse.
