2010 Craggy Range Le Sol
Nestled under Te Mata Peak in Hawke's Bay, Craggy Range is widely regarded as this regions finest producer. Established in 1998, premium sites were selected to express each vineyards unique attributes through the wines derived from them.
Their flagship Syrah Le Sol is grown in the esteemed Gimblett Gravels Wine Growing District. This unique sub-region lies on the former bed of the Ngaruroro River in Hawke’s Bay, exposed by floods in 1876. The gravels contain a combination of warm river stones and sandy alluvial soils that both insulate the vines in winter and retain extra heat during summer. Le Sol ('the soil'), is New Zealand's most iconic Syrah.

This 100% Gimblett Gravels 2010 Syrah exhibits lifted white Pepper notes on the nose, with interesting earthy tones of mushroom and star anise. Rich and full mouthfeel. Powdery, integrated tannins still firmly supporting a generous peppery spice up front with stewed fruit flavours developing mid palate. Lovely, silky finish with strong evidence of desirable tertiary development taking place in bottle. Ready for some hearty slow cooked beef cheeks!
Last tasted June 2018, still nowhere near it's best. 2021+
